Papa at Taylor Park

We missed Papa's funeral, but planned our Colorado trip around being there at Taylor Park when they were spreading his ashes. We met Mama Carol there with all her kids, and all the kids of two of her children. Taylor Park is where RD's family would spend vacations every summer for decades, mostly fishing and playing games. We had to brieflty stop at a thrift store in a little town on the way to get (ripped off for) jackets for almost everyone, cause I spaced how much cooler it is at Taylor at night. On our way up the winding roads there were only two kids feeling sick and only one actually throwing up. Into a frantically grabbed and thrown plastic sack with a hole in it, that still held some postcards from RMNP. :(
After walking by some stern-looking librarians to rinse/wash off Grace and get paper towels, and begging a plastic sack from a nearby safe, we made it the rest of the way.
All the way to Holt's Ranch, where we had the cheapest cabin. The floor actually significantly slanted, but we were thinking of it as camping, so it worked. Besides the fridge freezing our food and the heater turning it into a sauna during the day, unable to turn off. And I couldn't bring myself to use the curtained off shower in the bathroom-compound across from the cabin of guys hanging out on the porch; even the state-park showers I've used have had locked doors!
We found and updated a couple of Gramp and Grandma's geocaches, then the younger three wanted to go fishing. Aubree reeled in the one fish!

The next morning we spent in a big boat on Taylor Reservoir with RD's family, and Cameron caught a nice rainbow! The first hour.

The next three hours there were a few bites, but no more fish, but it was still fun all hanging out, and Seth and Wendy came prepared with snacks they shared with the kids, which helped them be happy. We all got sunburned, and then after lunch with the whole family, met at Willow Creek to spread Papa's ashes. I'm so glad we were able to be there. I didn't know him very well, but he was always kind to me and often insightful and supportive. RD spent some time fishing along on the creek, and we spent the evening with his family, and Aunt Stephanie helped the kids create their own tie-dyed -but-cooler t-shirts.
Another day of driving, and we were home! As fun as trips are, it's good to be home again.
