Inkom

A couple days after Christmas we drove up to RD's grandparents in Inkom, ID. We all love to visit them. We hung out, watched shows, Grandma did the girls' hair, and even in the winter the swing is awesome.

RD helped them collect a DNA sample for ancestry.com they got for Christmas. They kept joking they'd have the dog salivate for them, and find out they're part Labrador or golden retriever, like a friend who did that. I wouldn't put it past them :) But they did it all proper, and sent it off.
Grandpa also let us get out the 4-wheeler and pull the kids around in the snow in the backyard. They totally loved it, saying they wish we could do that every year.
Bree started out in the cab, and was happy to stay there for most the time, till we convinced her to go with Reese, who kept it enthusiastic yet safe, perfect for her. There were a few altercations about not getting room in the sled, but they worked out, and it was such a blast! It was cold, in the single digits, but in the sun and having fun, it felt perfect out there. The boys loved tipping the sled over so they would fall out, and chasing the sled to get back in.

Even the darn dog was having a ball, running around chasing the kids, pouncing on Reese's dragging hands, rolling around in the snow, and finding a large snowdrift against the fence that let him jump into the neighbor's yard. We called him to come, and he did come back, but couldn't jump back over from that side, so decided to enjoy the time to explore. RD got him by the collar, but it slipped over his head, and he was loose, running away. I was too heavy to get a boost from the snow, sinking in, so I popped two holes in my pants getting over the fence. He didn't come, but he didn't run, and I tightened and put his collar on and we headed back. No more fun in the snow for him.

We love the stories Grandma and Grandpa tell us. Grandma has an incredible memory for people and events, and she surprised me by telling me she'd done some embroidery for Christmas. Several years ago she told me it was too hard to see to thread the needle anymore, which I thought was too bad, since she does such fun embroidery. I asked her how she was able to do it, and she replied she just decided she wanted to accomplish more with her time, and figured out a way to adjust her eyes to see to thread the needle. I think that's pretty awesome. We love Grandpa and Grandma !
