We heard BYU was putting on Cyrano, adapted for young audiences, and were excited to take the kids. Since the soccer went so bad, we weren't sure about Aubree, but were willing to risk it. Cyrano! For kids!
We didn't ask them, just told them we were going. They weren't nearly as excited as we were.
We decided to make a night of it and have dinner at the creamery, which the kids love. (and to muster some enthusiasm for a play)
Lots of corn dogs, a grilled cheese and crispy chicken later, we oohed at their Fried Oreo sundae, but instead went for the mostly agreed upon pack of 6 orange cream bars for dessert. One unsatisfied kid sat staring at the remaining bar while we ate, then finally joined us. We sat at the picnic tables, sun lighting up the mountains, families with Y garb passing us. We set off for the play, only to find we'd mistaken the starting time, and were super early. Argh. Keeping kids waiting and bored to start a play, woohoo. So we visited the BYU store, and the kids complained about wanting to buy stuff, and we herded them back to the play.
We were the first ones there again, but at least the doors were open! Somehow an older couple cut in front of us and we were awkwardly trying to find six seats together in the small theater room as people started meandering in. The play was an adaptation using only 6 cast members, and the play was about an hour. The theater was intimate, seating 125, and we were in the second row, only a few feet away from the performers. Aubree did a good job sitting on our laps without squirming or complaining, but I loved looking down the row to see the other kids smiling and laughing faces as they followed the repartee. The cast did a great job, and when the play was over, Cameron stayed behind to get some autographs, and the other kids wrote notes to the cast saying they did a great job.
I told them they should go see Living Legends, and they mostly complained. sigh.
