| yes, RD went around and around in here..he's crazy. |
We got home and were eating lunch when we heard a loud explosion nearby at the church just a couple houses down the road. A short while later Reese looked back over to where it came from, and noticed flames! He told his cousin, and they yelled to get Grandma's attention (she was mowing). Grandpa called 911 and reported the fire. RD and Grandma went up to the church and found the kids who had set off a big firework that had ignited the grass on the hill. They moved a gas tank and snowblower out of a shed right by the hill, and a minute later a cop car was racing to the church. We sat on the porch watching for most of the afternoon as 20 minutes later fire trucks starting coming in. Fire fighters eventually made their way over to the fire closest to us, cutting pine boughs and carrying them and a hose up the hill.
The road was busy as people slowly drove by, watching the excitement. A huge plane made four sweeps by with flame retardant, going right over our heads, which was cool and loud and wild. Once the hill was edged in red, the fire fighters were hitting hot spots with the boughs and spray from the hose. Thankfully no homes were damaged!
The flames seemed out, as fire fighters stayed on the hill, so after dinner RD took the kids out for rides in Grandpas four-wheeler, which they loved! I got to go along with Aubree, which was so much fun. We got another view of the 120 burned acres.
That's the kind of excitement you never expect in Inkom!
