I always thought a Farmer's Market meant cheaper produce, probably since that's how it was in Provo. The Farmer's market in Boise is not the same, but it does have some great food. The fruit stand on Broadway has the same local produce cheaper, and is a lot easier to shop. But RD and I go to the market at least once a year, and was our date last week. Gaston's bakery is the only place for good french pastries, but since they closed down the Cafe de Paris, the Farmer's Market is the only place to get them. It's worth the drive just for the pain aux raisin. Food heaven.
But we kept walking around, the familiar pottery, jewelry, grass-fed meats and spray-free produce, lotions and creams, artwork and baked goods. We stopped at the gourmet soda tent, trying out the orange cream this year. It was perfect in my opinion, refreshing and subtle, not a slap of sugar in the face like fanta or other sodas are.
We also tried out steamed dumplings with mango and pineapple, as well as some sambusas. It was a delightfully delicious morning, and fun to try out new foods and tastes. I think Boise sure benefits from the refugee presence in the culinary department.
