We heart Rocky Mountain National Park

When we lived in Ft. Collins, CO, we went up to RMNP as often as we could. We LOVED the park, the hikes, drives, town, and fun. Since we would be driving past the area on our way to Denver area, we took a day to drive up the mountain to visit! I was SO excited about this day! and guess what the weather was!

Snowy and high winds of 50-80 mph. awesome. We could barely see the road, let alone anything else. But undeterred, we made our way to the Alluvial fan, our favorite spot with the three kids.

The van slid around a bit, and when we all got out, we couldn't find the trail that used to be on the west side, either from the snowstorm, or perhaps it got washed out from the flood (happened after we moved away). We drove over to the center of the falls, and most of us got out. Cameron and Grace climbed on the rocks, we checked out the area, and Aubree was confused why we were out of the car.

We met RD's parents for lunch at the "Other Place' I think it was called, it had a great view when the snow calmed down a bit. Some of the kids liked the ducks huddled from the wind perched on the deck.  We stopped at the Glassworks, and the christmas shop, as usual, but they don't give away free little paperweights like they used to do. bummer! the kids all wanted us to buy one for each of them, but we got a couple ornaments on clearance instead.

Since it was a little clearer by now, we took a final drive throught the park, and stopped to get a pic by the park entrance. We were out there for just a minute or so, but RD lost his drivers license in the wind! He'd had it out to use our Access pass, but we said a prayer, and Grace found in in the road a while back. Phew! The wind could have blown it a lot farther away!

We finally saw some wild turkeys, elk and deer on that last drive. Aubree Loved it, and kept saying "more! more deer!"

As we drove down the mountain, the wind stopped, the sun came out, and was beautiful. The weather the rest of the week was so great, it was sad the day we went was so crazy. But, was I ever glad to be out of the car for a few days! Over the mountains and through the snow, to Grandmother's house we go!
