Ruffled Feathers

The Harbinger of spring for us here is the coming of the herring... eagles, gulls, and songbirds come back, sea lions and whales appear in large numbers, and we can smell the sea again. When we were driving along HPR we saw a few eagles coming down to the beach beside a pull-out in the road. Since they couldn't have made it more convenient, we pulled over and checked them out. Almost ten eagles were on the beach, arguing over some fish while the ravens tried to sneak pieces. While I could have tried to sneak closer, my vivid memory of an eagle aggressively approaching me last year kept me cautious. They really are big, and while beautiful, those talons look scarier the closer they get. We all loved watching them flap at each other, take off and land, and perform aeiral stunts. It was the best show/view of eagles we've had! We see them all over town now, I am SO excited for Spring! Wooo hooo!

Great pictures. Much better than any of my tries last year.
