It's winter!

We are told there are two seasons in Sitka: summer and winter. Since the temperature only ranges from around 30 to 70, there's not much room for four seasons. The last several weeks it has been about 42 to 37 F; it doesn't even vary between night and day, only lowering about 3 degrees. On thursday the kids had school off, and it got cold enough for the rain to turn to snow for the afternoon. Friday morning they ran downstairs yelling "it's snowing, it's snowing!!" Reese said 'it's winter now!" and Cameron exclaimed "christmas is soon!". They had the day off again, so after breakfast we got our snow gear on and headed outside. Grace wasn't excited about walking in the snow, but was happy to be pulled around in a sled.

After the boys threw some snowballs, built a snow fort, and caught some snowflakes, we headed over to the playground covered in snow.

The boys loved going down the slippery slides. Grace braved walking around in the snow, objecting to the snow sticking to her boots at first, but then was comfortable as long as I was holding her hand. Eventually her gloves got wet and came off; her hands got cold, and she refused the new dry gloves I tried to get on her. She was done, so we headed back in for some homemade hot cocoa and enjoyed the falling snow with christmas music!

We have snow here too, but not enough to sled on. I think Grace will get braver as time goes on.

Oh, that sounds like so much fun! I will forever miss the snow and being able to have hot chocolate after playing in it.
