Horsetooth Falls!!

It had been awhile since we'd been on a hike, so we looked around and decided on a 2.5 mile hike (roundtrip) up to a waterfall by Horsetooth Reservoir. It was gorgeous!! The hike varied from open meadow, narrow gulches, and rock-lined ridges. My favorite part was the abundance of wildflowers!! It was a great time of year to do this hike! Birds were chirping and singing all over; in fact, an ornothologist was there observing breeding. The kids did a great job with some steep and rocky parts, and we came upon the falls! It was a smaller, slower stream, and had a perfect wading pool at the bottom of the falls! The kids waded in, but Cameron got his shoes wet (before he followed our directions to take them off) and Grace wanted to go ALL the way in. We had a snack, and then it started to rain!! Oh no! Reese felt very justified now, as he had been complaining some of storm clouds; I had been telling him we had prayed for safety, and if we followed the Holy Ghost we'd be ok. We were very blessed there was a small cave from a projection of rock around the falls!! We hung out while the rain passed, eating snacks, coloring, and getting dirty!
When the rain cleared we headed back; Cameron's shoes were wet, and Grace was really tired and hungry since it'd taken longer waiting. We had to keep her happy with long grasses to hold and chew on... by the end I had to hold her hand as we hiked. The rain made it muggier and warmer, but the boys did awesome making it back without complaining!! When we got home we realized Cameron had a large blister on his heel from his wet shoes; what a trooper!
