But Reese said he didn't feel any different.
Since we're moving the week of his birthday (!), we had a fairly simple, but super fun birthday party with a LOT of his friends. We had just been introduced to noodle hockey, and Reese loved it so much we played it for about an hour with all the boys. Grace and Cameron played too, and we were happy to see they were pretty gentle with Grace, so even Aubree was willing to hold a noodle. Cameron held his own with no problem, and RD got into the mix a couple times to even up teams/scores.
Reese also organized some group games he learned in his creative communications class, which were way more poular than I'd imagined, they were into them! The boys once again impressed me as they included Grace and Aubree, letting them have turns lead the circle game, and Grace was the runner-up champion to the ninja/cowboy/gorilla game (whole-body rock/paper/scissors/).
We cleaned out Little Caesar's hot-n-ready pizzas and crazy bread, and probably could have finished off another pizza, but filled up any empty space with ice cream. Reese likes the ice cream better than the cake, and it was SO EASY! I loved it. especially with packing/moving. And since I'd forgotten and packed up the birthday candles, we scrounged up one half-used pillar. Sorry Reese.
After school on his birthday we went over to a field and used up some silly string we found when packing up. Reese loves to chase and get people, so he enjoyed that. And they even all helped pick up afterwards.
Reese requested waffles for dinner, so we went one further and got whipping cream. The kids loved that we were emptying the fridge of chocolate syrup as well.
Can't believe he's a teenager!! We've had lots of conversations about which pg13 movies he can watch now, and he's a bit frustrated at the limits, but we are letting him see Star Wars, when we can figure it out with moving, which he's very excited about.
The night before his birthday he sat down next to me on the couch and I told him about when he was born, and we talked about being 13, and how life's going. It was an awesome moment, and gave me hope for this next phase of life. This is the part I've been worried about! See ya on the flip side in 17 years. (that long till we have no more teenagers! I better figure this out before then!)
