Aubree is both fascinated and terrified by animals. She has been knocked over and licked by different dogs that were unleashed at playgrounds/parks with their owners, and is now consumed with fear is any animal even approaches her. Yet, she will stand watching the squirrels and birds, transfixed in her spot, as long as they are there.
This morning there was a squirrel AND two birds out front at the same time! she was pretty excited.
One of her favorite things to do is to go for a walk around our cul-de-sac. We have two neighbors with cats, and last night on our walk, she spied one. Immediately she stopped, riveted, pointing and exclaiming, 'da, da, da'. As the cat came closer, she hastily turned around with her arms up, rocking up on her tiptoes, wanting to be held up high in safety. Once off the ground, in our arms or lap, crouched down to see, she is intent on the cat, as it comes closer, rolling around on the grass beside us. Bree wants to stay as long as the cat is there, but once it leaves, put off by our lack of caresses, we convince her to continue on our walk. We are just passing our mailbox as she stops and goes into a squat with her hands up by her head, in the 'where is it' way,--- another cat walking away!! She was so funny, i wished I had my camera with me. Her pose and expression of surprise, excitement, and worry is hard to describe for me. The cat was on a mission and was quickly lost to sight. The other kids are anxious to have a furry pet, but I'm not so sure how that's all going to go down with Aubree. RD reminds me of the time the boys were little and we visited his parents, and they just cried and cried, perched on the couches, cause they were scared of their huge dogs. By the end of the week they were pulling the dogs tail and laying on them. SO maybe it'll be ok. Either way, they have to wait to get one till we buy a house, and that doesn't seem to be happening too soon.
