Whirlwind Weekend

Why can't the weekends go just a bit slower? Probably just a little too much to ask, I know. This past week was quite crazy. Debbie, Reese, and Grace got up at 4:30 A. M. ! and left for Anchorage to go to an audiologist appointment and a speech and language evaluation. They survived the trip there and took advantage of the big city by hitting Costco, Walmart, and an inflatable bouncy balloon place where the kids worked on wearing themselves out. The 4 appointments were on the next day which totaled to being 7 hours. Yikes. Talk about long doctor visits. They then went out to eat and got home on the 11:00 pm flight. Trying to take two kids on flights and haul them around for a couple of days does not make out to be much of a break from Sitka, but Debbie was a trooper and made it back alive. She's so amazing to brave a 3 hour plane ride, sleeping in a new place, and sitting through appointments in the name of our kids' health. I love you Deb!
In the meantime, Cameron and I had some quality time together, which was fun overall, though he was sick for one of those days. We were all happy to be back together, but I had to work a the boarding high school's health fair all morning Saturday, then Debbie had a luncheon to be at as soon as I got home. Debbie had Reese's Basketball to go to that morning as well. Debbie got home around 4, we had left overs, then got ready to go to the monthly Grind. The monthly Grind was created 16 years ago in Sitka to give the community something to do together during the off-season. This one was entitled "Ode to Sitka." Community members shared poetry, songs, or stories talking about Sitka. It was held at the Sheet'ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi Tlingit Clan House. The audience members were asked to write and submit a Haiku describing Sitka while we waited to start. They then read them between the various acts.
Here's mine:
Sitka
Rain, Rain, Rain.... More Rain,
Rain... Rain, Sunshine Rain, Rain Rain,
Rain, Sunshine, Rain... Rain
People loved it and laughed because it wasn't elaborate but so true!

We left early as our kids were sprawling out and using coats for pillows.

Sunday came, attending Church had it's own ups and downs despite the Truths being shared there. Came home, after various meetings, took a breather, then headed to a members home which had 20 invitees and had dinner with them. Got home, put the kids down, and now I'm trying to get through this blog.
Phew.
Why again do Mondays have to come so soon??

Oh, how weekends seem to get busier and busier as we age! Here's hoping this weekend is a lot more relaxing for you all.
