Reese is 7?!

Reese's birthday is on Monday!!!! Since mondays are fairly busy with school/work, dinner, Family Home Evening and then my dance practice, we decided to stretch his celebration over saturday and monday, which he was very happy about!!
Saturday we went on a walk along the trail on Halibut Point State Park, which was a fun quick hike. It goes along the coastline by Magic Island, so we got to look out for crabs and other sea life; we spotted our first hermit crabs, and saw lots of little crustaceans we thought looked like tiny shrimp. It was a beautiful sunny day, and got up to the high 40's. It felt so warm in the sun!! We stopped at the beach by the trail, and it was so warm and relaxing sitting on the rocks while the kiddos played in the sand and rocks we lingered for quite a while. After searching for more critters, the boys threw some rocks in the ocean, made some tracks in the sand, and then created a rock pile. Grace had fun looking for crabs with RD, and then hanging out with us. It has been so long since it has felt warm outside! We relished the chance to sit back and enjoy the day outside, letting the steady pounding of the surf wash away concerns for a little while, and just be together.
After we came home for lunch, RD set up a 'treasure hunt' for the boys. They had to use clues and the GPS to find five caches RD hid; some treasure for them both along the way, and Reese's presents at the end. They had a great time, although by then it was cold again!
We had dinner at McDonald's (reese's request...chicken nuggets!), and Reese wanted a football cake. Since we left most everything when we moved here, we haven't gotten any cake decorating stuff like tips, and our hand mixer died a couple weeks ago. I don't really like store-frosting, but after having to mix the cake batter by hand I wasn't beating frosting! My kitchen shears don't cut plastic baggies well, so the hole I had was really big, which made decorating it a little difficult. But the wonderful thing is Reese was happy just to have a football on his cake, even if the lines were very thick and the football not symmetrical... sometimes I need to be more like him and just let it go!
Anyway, Reese LOVED his presents he received, and thoroughly enjoyed playing the wii we borrowed for the day from our very nice friends the Harts.
It's almost hard to believe he's getting so old, but then again it seems like he's been part of our lives forever! He's so awesome, and we are so grateful he's in our family!
