Winter Solstice!

While it's depressing to have such a short day, it's encouraging that the days will slowly be getting 'longer'. Today is our shortest daylight hours: sunrise is 8:39 am' and sunset is 3:20 pm, but the sun doesn't make it over the mountains until closer to 9:30, and similarly gets dusk much earlier than 3 pm. The picture is of the sun just coming into view at 9:26. It isn't a huge deal yet, but it sure throws us off. Reese often asks "why is dad so late from work" when it's only 4 pm, cause it's been dark for long enough he thinks it's really late. I find myself more tired and less motivated to do stuff after dark. Everyone here says january is the worst month, since it's still dark and there's nothing like Christmas to look forward to.

So for now I am left to standing in the pale sliver of sunlight we get through our kitchen window around lunchtime, if it's clear enough, to get my light 'fix'. We'll have to wait and see if we need our own 'happy light" (what peeps up here call the broad-spectrum light recommended)
