Trying to wear out their wiggles..

Last saturday we felt a bit restless and the boys were being a bit crazy, so we decided to pack em up for a walk/hike near our home. We've been anxious for some snow to go sledding or snowshoeing, but the weather hasn't cooperated. It wasn't too cold out when we started, but by the time we came back in it definitely still felt like winter... just no snow. It was still a lot of fun to get out though. We went to a park called Coyote Ridge, it has a prairie and then some ridges and winds eventually into the Devil's Backbone that we hiked before. The boys liked watching the prairie dogs bark and chatter to each other, and jump up and down signaling each other (i guess they do that!) We also got to see a red-tailed hawk searching for food, and even attempt to catch something, but missed.... probably a good thing for the boys at least! Cameron is a very willing hiker, usually up for more, Reese tends to be less than enthusiastic about them. While on the hike, we were asking them about their favorite part of hiking.. Cameron said it was the interpretive signs (info boards), and Reese said just being together, but I think what they really like is the mandatory snack break. No matter the length of our hike, we always (so far) bring along a snack and/or juice for a break. We bring a special snack they don't usually get, like fruit snacks, or chips, or a fruit/grain bar, etc.,.. that really seems to make it exciting for them!
